- The X-Runner was the “sport truck” version of the Tacoma, only available in RWD Access Cab configuration. It featured a close-ratio 6-speed Aisin transmission and a 3.15 limited slip. Toyota added structural bracing for increased stiffness (called the “X brace”). This truck had large anti-roll bars and was lowered with stiff springs and Bilstein shocks on 18in wheels wearing 45 series Bridgestone Potenza’s!
- X-Runners are factory equipped with a Stoptech big brake kit as well as a double-wishbone suspension and a lightweight composite bed
- Toyota boldly claimed the Nissan 350Z was used as the performance benchmark for the X-Runner. Road test numbers prove they weren’t kidding: A 2004 350Z put down .88g in the skidpad (Car and Driver), while the X-Runner put down over .90 g (Motor Trend)
- An optional TRD supercharger was available as a dealer-installed option. It boosted output to 304 horsepower while maintaining the factory warranty. The cost was around $4k for the supercharger, plus installation
Key Model Year Changes:

- In 2009, Toyota no longer offered the LSD
- Very few changes occurred between 2008 and 2012
