Compared to the 2.8L V6 used in the A4, the S4 uses a slightly smaller 2.7L V6. This is due to smaller bores from increasing cylinder wall thickness to handle turbo boost
Max torque (258 lb ft) is available from 1850 rpm to 4000 rpm, and is a completely flat torque curve. Audi offered this same engine in the A6 2.7T
The Bi-Turbo DOHC V6 has 5 valves per cylinder (total 30 valves). It utilizes a cast iron block, forged steel crank, and a variable geometry composite intake manifold. Magazines claim 350 hp is a simple chip and exhaust system upgrade away, although this will shorten the life of the factory turbos
