This is the first year Porsche offered the 944 with a turbo. Adding a water cooled KKK turbocharger to the base 944 required Porsche to reduce the compression ratio to 8:1, as well as install an intercooler
At WOT, the Bosch engine management allows a temporary boost in power (10%) at maximum acceleration by keeping the wastegate closed
These cars borrowed the transaxle from the 924, but not before Porsche strengthened the gearbox, improved the gear ratios, and added a transmission oil cooler. The brakes were also upgraded to four-piston calipers
