- This is a full frame truck (no unibody) capable of a 1,400 lb payload. The bed features double walled construction
- The fuel efficient 4 cyl, combined with a 19+ gallon gas tank, allows for a 556 mile cruising range
- These trucks have the highest ground clearance of any small truck at the time
- Features underbody steel skid plates, including ones underneath the fuel tank and transfer case
- To prove their dependability and ruggedness, Toyota used these trucks to win Class 7 of the 1983 Manufacturers Challenge Cup Series
- A 2.4L diesel powerplant was available, with FRM (Fiber Reinforced Metal) pistons. A highly advanced technology at the time, FRM provides less friction and has much better heat transfer qualities than iron. This tech was embraced by many Japanese manufacturers in the 80’s and 90’s (especially Honda, who used it on the NSX)
